Outside Grant Opportunities

The Cultural Council is committed to promoting opportunities for artists, arts professionals, and cultural organizations.  In an effort to provide useful information we strive to list grants and other opportunities for professional development not offered by the Cultural Council, that are available to the public.
Congratulations to JAX Arts Project - Round 2 Grantees!
  • PNC Foundation has partnered with the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville to award seven $2,500 grant awards through the JAX Arts Project - Round 2 to individual artists living and working in Northeast Florida.
  • The purpose of the funding is to enable the selected artists to focus on the completion of art works during a six-month grant period.  Following the grant period, all grantees will share and discuss their work in a community forum hosted by the Cultural Council and PNC.
Many thanks to PNC Foundation for support of this program!  Meet the artists, below:

Raquel Benjamin- "Protest Pinstripe"     Visual Arts, Design Arts
To produce a 3-piece capsule clothing collection called the “Protest Pinstripe” collection which consists of a pinstriped women’s blazer, trouser pant, and vest. The concept of this collection is to create a design that from afar gives the illusion of a pinstriped fabric but up-close reads protest messaging. The purpose is to create a subtle and discreet, but innovative and impactful alternative for changemakers.

Tamara Colonna- "Literary Muse"      Performing Arts
To produce a new musical CD entitled “Literary Muse” consisting of original songs inspired by literature and poetry, written and performed by the artist.  One song, “Allingham,” was inspired by William Allingham, friend of William Yeats, and known as the fairy poet. The recording of this song will be sent to the annual Allingham Festival in Ballyshannon, Ireland.

Teresa Donya Cook- "See Jacksonville"     Visual Arts
To complete 10-12 large 18 x 24 watercolor paintings displaying different monumental places of Jacksonville for a proposed exhibition.  The collection will represent iconic buildings and locations throughout the city with goal of helping to create a sense of place for residents and visitors to Jacksonville.

Alisha Lewis- "Sweet Fruit"     Visual Arts
The body of work is a series of life-size ceramic sculptures inspired by Black laborers in fruit orchards from the early 20th century. It will be accompanied by a written artist statement contextualizing the work.  Topics explored will be supported by a gallery exhibit and public engagement activities.

Rhianna Pohlhammer- "Dear Katia"    Visual Arts
Pieces will be completed for a proposed exhibition of a fiber art representation of Katia Kraftt, the French volcanologist. The grant will enable the artist to expand her work into felting and the more extensive use of natural dyes.

Kathy Stark- "WPA Style Park Poster Paintings"     Visual Arts
Series of seven original paintings of local parks will be created in the style of the iconic original Works Progress Administration (WPA) posters of national parks.  The large-scale paintings will be exhibited, incorporated into future editions of an existing book, used in educational presentations.  Printed posters will be produced.

Jason Tetlak- "Slide Puzzle Mural"     Visual Arts
To create an interactive mural that allows the general public to interact with it using mobile technology. The artist will paint a mural that is a slide puzzle game and develop associated programming so that viewers can solve the puzzle on their phones.

UF Center of Arts in Medicine

The Arts Writers grant
Supports both emerging and established writers who are writing about contemporary visual art. Ranging from $15,000 to $50,000 in three categories—articles, books, and short-form writing—these grants support projects addressing both general and specialized art audiences, from short reviews for magazines and newspapers to in-depth scholarly studies. We also support art writing that engages criticism through interdisciplinary methods or experiments with literary styles. As long as a writer meets the eligibility and publishing requirements, they can apply.
