Multifaceted artist Al Letson, a nationally recognized performance poet, playwright, and actor, offers poetry workshops and assemblies for elementary, middle and high school students. These programs promote expression through language, create an appetite for words, and exemplify that there is poetry in our everyday lives. He also offers the choreopoem “Griot, He Who Speaks the Sweet Word” that follows the tradition of African storytelling from the ancient Mali Empire to contemporary America.

Professional actors engage students in a high energy program designed to teach the fundamentals of writing a play through performances, improvisation and other focused activities. Workshops are available for elementary and secondary levels. Both are designed to inspire and assist students in writing plays and submitting them to the 2007 Young Playwright’s Festival.

Offers a special performance, with free study guides, of all its plays to students. Shakespeare in San Marco is presented annually and also supplemented by study guides. In cooperation with local schools, Theatre Jacksonville provides volunteer opportunities for students to complete community service hours necessary for graduation. For area elementary schools, it provides a traveling trunk show offering a live example of FCAT benchmarks in use.
